Rezum Steam BPH
Treatment in Busan
📍 Busanjin-gu, Busan | 🩺 Board-Certified Urologist | 🌐 English OK | 🔒 Confidential
Rezum uses water vapour (steam) to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — enlarged prostate causing urinary symptoms. Convective thermal energy is delivered directly into the obstructing prostate tissue via a transurethral probe. The treated tissue dies and is absorbed over several weeks, reducing prostate volume and relieving obstruction. 20 minutes, local anaesthetic, same-day discharge. Board-certified urologist, English consultations at Urogyn Busan.
Rezum at Urogyn Busan takes ~20 minutes under local anaesthetic. Same-day discharge. Tissue reduction occurs over 4–8 weeks. Minimal risk of ED or retrograde ejaculation. English OK.

How Does Rezum Water Vapour Therapy Work?
Rezum uses the natural thermal energy stored in water vapour (steam) to treat the excess prostate tissue causing BPH symptoms. A small transurethral probe is inserted through the urethra into the prostate. Nine-second pulses of steam are delivered into the targeted prostate zones. The steam releases stored energy on contact with tissue, causing immediate cell death. Over the following 4–8 weeks, the body naturally reabsorbs the treated tissue — reducing prostate volume and opening the urethral channel.
Unlike UroLift which uses clips to hold tissue aside, Rezum actually shrinks the prostate. This makes Rezum particularly effective for men with larger prostates, central zone enlargement, or median lobe hypertrophy that UroLift cannot treat. Rezum is FDA and KFDA-approved with randomised controlled trial evidence supporting durable symptom improvement at 5 years.
- Rezum actually reduces prostate tissue volume — UroLift holds it aside mechanically
- Rezum treats median lobe hypertrophy — UroLift generally cannot
- Both are same-day, local anaesthetic, similar sexual function risk profile
- Rezum results develop gradually over 4–8 weeks — UroLift improvement is more immediate
- TURP is more invasive but appropriate for very large prostates or significant bladder neck obstruction
